A Director/Producer with a wide variety of experience in both studio and independent feature films and television, Winther uses his knowledge of storytelling, visual effects and production skills to hone a studio budget feel for the indie projects under his direction.
Along with his brother Lars Winther (Guardians of The Galaxy 2&3, Suicide Squad), he has formed the indie banner WINTHER BROTHERS to tell entertaining, genre stories with a big budget feel at a more modest price. The first film out of their collaboration is the indie psychological thriller which Winther directed and co- wrote called AFTERMATH starring Ashley Greene and Shawn Ashmore. It premieres August 4th on Netflix.
He started his career working his way up through the production ranks working as a boom man, mechanical effects technician and assistant director on films ranging from WE’RE NO ANGELS starring Robert De Niro and Sean Penn, CUTTHROAT ISLAND with Geena Davis and THE GOOD MOTHER with Diane Keaton and Liam Neeson. The last of which he worked as Leonard Nimoy’s assistant.
After that, he met the German director Roland Emmerich and spent the next 12 years producing, directing second unit and running all development for CENTROPOLIS ENTERTAINMENT. During his tenure, he produced and 2nd unit directed such blockbusters as INDEPENDENCE DAY, THE PATRIOT, STARGATE, GODZILLA, DAY AFTER TOMORROW and EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS.
He directed THE LIBRARIAN, for TNT starring Noah Wyle, Sonya Walger, Olympia Dukakis, Bob Newhart and Kyle Maclachlan turning it into a franchise for the network, and has also directed episodes of LEVERAGE, a TNT series that spanned five seasons.
